DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\nThe Lendvay Ensemble\, which takes its name from its founder\, the renowned Hungarian violinist József Lendvay\, will present works by unknown female composers. Among the pioneering female composers from various countries and periods\, the names of Barbara Strozzi and Isabella Leonarda are mentioned first. They both lived in 17th-century Italy\, one as a composer of secular songs\, the other with an oeuvre encompassing nearly every religious genre of her time: motets\, psalms\, magnificats\, and masses. Antonia Bembo and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre were their contemporaries. \nMaddalena Laura Sirmen\, born Lombardini\, famous as a composer\, singer\, and violinist\, was also Italian but lived a century later. Pioneers of the 20th century include the Dutch Henriette Bosmans (who\, thankfully\, is increasingly heard) and the French composer Elsa Jacqueline Barraine. The latter is considered one of the most outstanding French composers of the 1950s. Yet\, her music is rarely performed today.
