On the weekend of May 30 and 31, 2026, the Van Cappellenhuis is organizing a special masterclass weekend for string players and ensembles. During this inspiring weekend, two leading musicians and pedagogues, cellist Katja Dirven and violinist József Lendvay, will share their knowledge, experience, and musical vision with participants of varying levels.

The Van Cappellenhuis is delighted to welcome these two renowned musicians, who perform with us regularly.

These masterclasses offer a unique opportunity to work intensively on technique, interpretation, and ensemble playing, under the guidance of internationally renowned artists. These open classes provide a platform for meeting, deepening understanding, and artistic growth.

The main hall of the Van Cappellenhuis is open to the public all day. Interested parties are warmly welcome to attend (part of) the masterclasses and thus gain insight into the participants’ learning process.

Teachers

Katja Dirven – cello

Katja Dirven is one of the most versatile cellists in the Netherlands. Over the past three decades, she has built a broad and impressive career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and teacher. Her deep-rooted passion for music and education has not only shaped her own artistic development but has also had a lasting influence on many young musicians.

József Lendvay – violin

József Lendvay is an internationally celebrated violinist, known for his virtuosity, expressiveness, and stage presence. In addition to his solo career, he is a passionate pedagogue who passes on his knowledge and musical insights with great enthusiasm to both young talents and advanced musicians.


Content of the Masterclasses

The following masterclasses are offered during the weekend:

  • Violin – by József Lendvay
  • Cello – by Katja Dirven
  • Chamber Music – by Katja Dirven and József Lendvay
    The lessons focus on technical development, musical interpretation, stylistic awareness, and stage presence. There is room for individual guidance as well as for deepening ensemble playing.

The masterclasses are open to:

  • individual violinists and cellists
  • ensembles (duos, trios, quartets, quintets, and larger ensembles)
    Participation is open to musicians of all ages and levels, from beginners up to conservatory level.

Chamber Music
Ensembles are requested to prepare a program with a maximum duration of 30 minutes.

When registering, please state:

  • your name and instrument
  • your playing experience and level
  • any learning goals or specific points of attention
  • (for ensembles) the composition and repertoire

Upon receipt of your registration, you will receive further information regarding the group assignment, your playing time, and the payment method.


Costs

  • Masterclass violin or cello: €75 per person (45 minutes)
  • Masterclass chamber music: €100 per ensemble

Concert and presentation

Participants in the masterclasses will have the opportunity to contribute to the final concert on Sunday, May 31, 2026. This concert will take place at the Van Cappellenhuis and offers participants a valuable chance to put what they have learned into practice and gain stage experience.


Audience and tickets

The masterclasses on Saturday are open to the public. This offers an inspiring experience for listeners, students, and music lovers who wish to witness the learning process up close.

Admission on Saturday is free.
